Leica Cameras at Calumet
Leica is a world famous brand of cameras produced by a German company which bear the same name. The company is formerly known as the Ernst Leitz Company.
The first model of a Leica camera was created by Leitz engineer Oskar Barnack in 1914. In 1925, when the folding plate camera was popular, the production of the Leica A went on sale. The genius format of 35mm created a revolution in photography in 1925 and a legend was born. For jounalist and photographers the small, lightweight and precise camera offered a new, undreamed freedom to create their images.
It is over seventy years since the first Leica camera was manufactured by Ernst Leitz and since then over 1,500,000 Leica cameras have been manufactured up to the present day.
From the day Leitz invented the first model of Leica to the present day, Leica has had a profound influence on our visual perspective of the world.
